The annual Wellington Kiwanis Club’s Morris Furcron Peterson’s Nut Sale is underway with proceeds going toward scholarships and community playground equipment, according to a news release.

Throughout October, members of Kiwanis and its service leadership programs, which includes Wellington High’s Key Club, the K-Kids of McCormick Middle School and Westwood Elementary School will sell the nuts.

The club set a sales record of nearly $12,600 and has set a goal of clearing that mark in 2022, according to the release.

The annual nut sale was named after long-time Kiwanian and local civic servant Morris Furcron, who died in 2017.

The former village police chief was always the top seller, the release said.

Before Furcron passed, the civic group named the annual sale in his honor.

“And today, many people continue to buy nuts out of loyalty to Morris,” the release said.

Sales forms are located throughout the business community, at the three schools and from any Kiwanian, according to the release.

The nuts are expected to be delivered by Thanksgiving.
