Troy head coach Chris Stack wants his players to win every day. That’s the expectation the first year head coach has set for the team.

“You know what it means to the community here,” he said. “You know what it means to the school district, and more importantly, the kids.”

He hopes to get the Flying Horses back to its winning ways.

“It helps working in the building, working in the district and again, being acclimated with each other, my expectations,” said Stack, who is also a physical education teacher at Troy High School. “It helped everybody.”

So far, Troy has won its first two games of the season after winning just one game on the gridiron in 2021.

It was a big drop after going 7-0 and winning a Section 2 championship just a few months earlier during the 2020 Fall II COVID season.

“Our coaching staff has done a really good job pushing us, and the guys are really motivated, especially after the season we had last year,” said quarterback Michael Dinardo.

For seniors like Dinardo, they would love nothing more than to earn their way back into playoff contention. While it is Stack’s first year at the helm, he’s actually in his eighth year coaching football at the school.

“Coach Stack knows us very well,” Dinardo said. “He knows every single one of us on this team personally, and he’s pushed every single one of us.”

“We already know what Stack expects from us, and the same with us,” said Justin Gilmore, a senior wide receiver. “We know what to expect from him and it’s good.”

The Flying Horses are looking to keep the train rolling this Friday night at La Salle. It’s a crucial Class A showdown, especially with the Collar City Cup on the line.

“It’s been very intense,” Gilmore said. “Everybody is working hard, going 100 percent. We know this is a very big game going into this week.”

By winning the offseason, practice, and even film sessions, they hope to get back to winning Friday nights for Troy football.

“We know we’re going to have to play our best football game,” Stack said. “We just have go out and execute our game plan.”
