Simple but convenient tool when your deep slot is not deep enough

In the past few weeks, we have returned to the giant battery power station that can keep the lights on when off the grid; looking at the multimeter, this is a simple tool that can save you a lot of diagnostic time; and using a kind of glue Agent, as it says on the tin. The cool tool of the week is the pass-through ratchet, which is a powerful and versatile tool that can be your daily driving ratchet.

If you are like me, a somewhat common problem is dealing with accessories that are longer than the deepest socket in your arsenal. I have always known that it will be an interesting day when the sleeve cannot turn the nut because the threaded rod or stud is too long.

The problem may not be just that the stud is too long, but the necessity of the two tools must be in the same location at the same time. When you hold the damper shaft with a hex wrench and loosen the nut, some struts are easier to remove. This is the backbone of Smart Fortwo.

The situation of adjusting the valve clearance on some vehicles is similar. You need a tool to fix the nut and another tool to insert to adjust the internal fittings.

Just remind me to keep it simple, or decorate yours with RGB lights, touch screens or even digital thermostats.

I have encountered this situation even when trying to do simple things (such as removing seats from a school bus).

The bolts used to secure the bus seat may be unnecessarily long, which makes disassembly painful. In my case, there was someone under the car holding the nut in place when I turned the bolt. They can't fix the nut with a ratchet, so I gave them a socket wrench. When I loosened the bolt, the wrench only held for a few seconds before slipping off.

When this happens, you can pull out an adjustable hammer or wrench like I did. You can also buy special tools, you will no longer use these tools, but there is an easier way.

Know the through ratchet. It sounds like: a ratchet with a big hole in the middle. The socket they use is yes, and there is also a big hole in the middle. These sockets allow you to pass accessories and other tools directly through for work. The best part? They are as strong as ordinary ratchets. Check out this stress test from the ClientGraphics YouTube channel:

You may already have a similar tool with a ratchet wrench. But in my experience, when they slip, they will be as annoying as ordinary wrenches. And they don’t have good handles like ratchets. This is a tool I wish to add to my collection when working on a winter motorcycle project, and I might install a lift kit on one of my Smarts.

These tools are very cheap to run. The Hart featured in the video can be bought for $22, while the strong Stanley is only $29. However, if you don’t need something that can survive the cheaters’ bar, you can make it cheaper.

Do you know of strange or unique tools that wrenchers can benefit from? Would you like to see us test a tool and understand its performance? Email me or drop it in the comments!

I have a straight-through kit, which is very convenient in several situations-if the normal ratchet and socket are too high, but I need a deeper depth than the ratchet wrench. And while loosening the nut that fixes the spring seat, it is very valuable to disassemble the pillar assembly that requires a hexagon to hold the shock-absorbing shaft in place, especially when the nut is recessed into the spring seat*cough E36*
