Makita has introduced a brushless solution for fast and accurate cutting on threaded rods without causing you to do a lot of tedious rework. Its style is different from its main competitors and should make it easier to cut expenses.

The biggest topic about the Makita threaded rod cutting machine revolves around the design, size and weight of the tool. The compact design can be carried almost anywhere.

There is a hook on the boat, but Makita recommends not to use it on the belt to avoid potential injury. Instead, they make a shoulder strap that can free your hands when you climb.

Considering its 7-pound weight (with battery) and the angle between the handle and the cutter, the design of the tool really makes overhead cutting easier.

With a 5.0 Ah battery, the weight balance is very suitable for overhead cutting and keeps your wrist in a neutral position. However, it will be heavier when you cut horizontally.

Makita XCS03Z can handle all 1/4" and 3/8" coarse threads and stainless steel threaded rods with a reversible double-edged cutting die.

Like other cutting systems, this threaded rod cutter allows your rods to be burr-free and to use nuts. No more burrs from a bunch of shrapnel from the end of the cutting rod, no, sir.

The simplest cut is when trimming the installed rod. Align the threads on the inner mold and pull the trigger. Thanks to the compact design and automatic retraction of the mold, it is completely operated with one hand.

If you cut while holding a loose threaded rod, you will feel the shearing action trying to pull the rod to the side. It is not difficult to master, and cutting is still easy.

If a paper jam occurs, XCS03Z has a reverse function, which can reverse the motor, similar to its response at the end of cutting. Just flip the rocker switch and pull the trigger like any drill or impact driver.

The battery runtime of the tool is also impressive. After a 5.0Ah battery charge, XCS03Z's brushless motor will perform up to 1,300 cuts on a 3/8" mild steel threaded rod or 1,200 cuts on a 3/8" stainless steel threaded rod.

You need an on-board hex wrench to replace 3/8" and 1/4" molds. Some changes are needed to get used to the way the mold is installed. However, once you do this, just remove the bolts, exchange them, and screw them back.

The only thing I hope when I really leave is the onboard storage of the second set of molds. My obsessive-compulsive disorder just likes to put everything together.

This Makita threaded rod cutter retails for $489 as a bare metal and comes with a 3-year warranty. There are currently no kit options available.
