Nuts and berries a recipe for a long, healthy life

I want to pass along some of the best wisdom I’ve come across in 78 years. A nutritionist said it briefly, I heard it, and it made real sense.

When we were evolving from ape to Homo sapiens, our bodies evolved recognizing food as nuts, greens, grains and berries.

When we were starving, we ate other things, but our bodies didn’t recognize it as food and kept it and stored it as fat, just in case.

So I remembered this when recently I was on a really tight budget—really tight. I thought I should only buy food that my body would recognize as food.

I buy walnuts in a $30 bag from the Nut House and buy spinach, berries and sourdough English rolls at the 99-cent store.

A month went by and my pants felt loose and, sure enough, I’d lost 6 pounds. I am 4 feet, 11 inches and have gone from 140 to 124 pounds in two months doing nothing but this “ape” diet. Cool, right?

All of this was a surprise because I did it with the purpose of saving money and giving my body the best food. Little did I realize I would lose weight, too. I still have a jelly doughnut with friends every Sunday. Terry Griffin Camarillo
